About Nick
163.jpg
Nicholas A. “Nick’ Micozzie has never strayed very far from the Philadelphia area where he was born.  He is living today in Delaware County on Hilldale Road in Upper Darby Township.

First elected to the House in 1978, Nick Micozzie represents the 163rd Legislative District.  He has moved up the ladder of responsibility in the House, and serves as majority chairman of the House Insurance Committee.  In that capacity, Micozzie has introduced a number of key pieces of legislation, including allowing state income tax exemption for those who establish Medical Care Savings Accounts and requiring insurance policies to provide a minimum of 48 hours inpatient hospital care for new mothers and babies.  Both measures are now law.

Under Micozzie’s leadership the committee has approved legislation to require health insurance policies to cover costs of diabetic supplies, to provide consumer safeguards when financial institutions sell insurance (now Act 40 of 1997), to provide health insurance portability for consumers (Act 51), and to provide improved health insurance coverage for those who undergo breast cancer surgery and related reconstructive surgery (also Act 51).  The committee has also conducted hearings on Micozzie’s resolution to find solutions to the problem of uninsured motorists on Pennsylvania highways.

In addition to his Insurance Committee duties, Micozzie serves on the House Health Committee.  Known for his fairness and compassion for others, he got his start in public service at the local level, serving for many years as a councilman and then a commissioner in Upper Darby Township.  He has brought that concern for local government and responsiveness to the individual citizen with him to the General Assembly.  His proposals on Public Education and School Property Tax Reform have been praised by the news media across the state, including the Daily Times, the News of Delaware County and the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Born in Philadelphia, Nick Micozzie graduated from St. Thomas More High School in the city.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. Joseph’s College, Philadelphia and attended Villanova University.  Micozzie is a U.S. Air Force veteran who reached the rank of staff sergeant.

Nick Micozzie and his wife, June, have three children, Kathleen Micozzie O’Connor, Thomas and Kelly Ann Micozzie-Aguirre; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
